I am a former Olympic swimmer and pro trainer. I needed a small, sturdy thing, to combine with skipping rope and jogging etc. If you do so in one workout, it is perfect. At room temp. 20 min is about the max you can heat this thing up, so combined with crunches, pushups etc., it is a nice warm-up. However, I have had it for three months, 1-2 times a week w/out and it’s been keeping up with me so far.

Any type of regular use will break this one in a matter of weeks. My first unit broke at the center bracket after 4 weeks, and the second unit lasted two months – and I weigh only 175 lbs.

First of all, when I got mine the bolt assembly that holds the bar that adjusts how high the steps go was malformed and didn’t hold. I was able to replace it with a close enough fix with $4 worth of parts from the hardware store, but I don’t think the quality control on these is very good. Other than that it seems fairly sturdy, so this is probably not a problem if you’re willing to return it if you get a bad one. On the other hand, I haven’t had it very long yet.

The only real downside is that there isn’t any way to adjust the resistance (or if there is it isn’t obvious to me, and the manual is useless). You can make it somewhat harder or easier by adjusting the step height up and down.

We have a gym where I work, and I usually run on the eliptical set on 11 out of 20, if that gives you an idea of my fitness level. I’m not an abject beginner, but I’m not anywhere close to being a stud athelete either. With the steps set pretty near to the highest I got a bit of a sweat going, and could feel it in my legs. I would set it to more resistance if I could, but I did get my heart rate up. It’s quiet enough to do in front of a TV, which is a plus. Think of it as a way to have a brisk walk without going out in the winter weather.

I see this as a descent device for someone who is just getting started with an diet and exercise program and who isn’t sure if they want a big expensive piece of workout equipment which might end up collecting dust. It’s not really a competitor for a $500 stair-stepper, but if you don’t require a high level of resistance and a fancy computer isn’t not THAT far off either.

Amazon sells two different steppers like this, the other one is called a Sun-something or another. As nearly as I can these are exactly the same. In fact, the box mine came in had a third name that was different than either of these on it. My advice is to buy this one because it’s a couple buck cheaper and probably identical.

I’ve been using the lateral stepper for about 2 weeks now. You can feel it working the muscles in your legs and if you’re twisting while using it you can feel your back being worked too. It also works some on the tummy. I haven’t had any problems with it and expect that I will. If you’re looking to start working out but don’t want something that requires a lot of time and effort this is the machine for you! Sure has done the trick for me.

I recieved the sunfitness stepper a few days ago and was really suprised at the overall work out it gives me , It took a few attempts before i got my balance and rythum to work together : But once i did i found It gave my legs a great work out and the fact that your not holding on to any thing forces your stomach muscles to work in order to help you keep your balance , and belive me youll really feel the work out your stomach muscles get. One thing that is not mentioned is the resistance factor , by simply adjusting the hieght of the step pads you can control the height at wich your legs go up and down therefore increasing or decreasing the overall range your leg muscles have to work , the lower range is great for beginners but once you reached the point where you need a more intense work out you simply adjust the hieght of the step pads higher . I havent got to the point where im good enough on the machine to give my cardiovascular system a good work out yet but i know ill reach that point soon I THINK ITS A TERRIFIC MACHINE !
